Sorry to hear you ran into issues... They informed me that they were aware of the issue and a fix was already in place, pushed to an update: 2.7. 1. I updated and voila! it appears to have been resolved. Thanks for your positive and timely response! Very happy with the performance of the app, as well as the ethics and care from this company so far. I absolutely love TunnelBear.

First VPN I've ever used, won't change. I've been following TunnelBear for a long time and have always wanted to check it out. When I finally did, I fell in love with the easy to use interface and the private browsing. Awesome experience.

Easy to use. Great for people tech savvy enough to know they need a VPN but un-tech savvy enough to not be able to handle more than an on/off switch. Also, cute graphics.

Didn't need to use a VPN for long, but when I did I got recommended TunnelBear. There were some hiccups here and there, but in the end of it all, I leave pleasently satisfied with the service. Would definitely recommend others and come back when I need a VPN again.

Using TunnelBear for basic privacy and bypassing geo-restrictions. Interface is simple, works for what I need.

Detailed Review

TunnelBear is a VPN service for macOS that prioritizes simplicity and user-friendliness, making it a good choice for VPN beginners. It offers a straightforward interface with an on/off switch and a map to visualize server locations. TunnelBear focuses on providing online privacy and security by encrypting internet connections and masking IP addresses. It allows users to access geographically restricted content and browse securely on public Wi-Fi. While it offers a free plan with limited data, users can upgrade to paid subscriptions for unlimited data and more features.

Standout Features

  • Simple and User-Friendly Interface: Easy to use with a focus on simplicity, suitable for non-technical users.
  • Strong Encryption: Uses AES 256-bit encryption for robust security.
  • VigilantBear (Kill Switch): Blocks unsecured traffic if the VPN connection drops, ensuring continuous protection.
  • GhostBear (Obfuscation): Makes VPN traffic less detectable in countries with VPN restrictions.
  • SplitBear (Split Tunneling): Allows excluding specific websites from the VPN tunnel (macOS version is website-based only).
  • No-Logging Policy: Claims not to log user browsing activity for enhanced privacy.
  • Free Plan: Offers a free plan with 2GB of data per month to try the service.
  • WireGuard Protocol: Supports WireGuard for faster and more stable connections.

Conclusion

TunnelBear is a solid VPN option for Mac users seeking an easy-to-use and visually appealing application for basic privacy and security needs. Its free plan allows users to test the service, and paid plans are reasonably priced. Standout features like GhostBear and VigilantBear enhance its security and privacy offerings. However, users needing advanced features, consistently fast speeds for streaming, or robust customer support might consider alternatives. The limited data in the free plan and occasional issues with streaming services are drawbacks to consider.
