Ueli is a launcher you can use on Windows, macOS, and Linux — and it's pretty good... It does make things easier when you can use the same app on every platform and PC you own. I also think Workflows are an awesome feature to have built right in...

UELI (2020): Like Wox but newer and everything works (I believe). Has most features. Has 'Workflow' ('quickly executing things at once'?). Able to search Chrome bookmarks (Wox fails here). Uses Everything's indexing. ... Ueli looks nice. Fuziness strong out of box.

Detailed Review

Ueli is a free and open-source keystroke launcher available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, designed to enhance productivity by providing quick access to various computer functions. It allows users to search and launch applications, browse files and folders, manage browser bookmarks, perform calculations, convert currencies and colors, execute system commands, and create custom workflows. Ueli stands out for its cross-platform compatibility, offering a consistent experience across different operating systems.

Standout Features

  • Cross-Platform: Works seamlessly on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
  • Application and File Search: Quickly find and launch applications and files on your computer.
  • Web Search and Bookmarks: Perform web searches and access browser bookmarks directly from the launcher.
  • Built-in Utilities: Includes a calculator, currency converter, color converter, and translation tool.
  • System Commands: Execute operating system commands like shutdown, restart, and empty trash.
  • Workflows: Automate repetitive tasks by creating custom workflows.
  • Extensibility: Supports extensions to expand functionality, although the ecosystem is currently smaller than competitors like Raycast or Alfred.

Conclusion

Ueli is a promising and capable keystroke launcher, especially for users who work across multiple operating systems. Its consistent experience on macOS, Windows, and Linux is a significant advantage. While it may not have the extensive extension library of some competitors, its core features are robust and useful for improving daily productivity. For Mac users seeking a free and open-source alternative to paid launchers, Ueli is a solid option, though they should be aware of the potential need to bypass macOS security measures during initial installation due to the lack of notarization. Users who need a vast library of extensions might find Raycast or Alfred more suitable, but Ueli offers a good balance of features and cross-platform functionality for many users.
