Really good. After being annoyed by Skitch one time too many I went out looking for an alternative... and then I found Monosnap, and am very happy. Well-made and I quickly paid the $5 add-on fee to get me the ability to Sync to Dropbox (and several other services.)

How does Monosnap determine private/commercial usage? ... All of a sudden it says that it detected commercial use, which is not true.

Quite nifty and does it's job well! I really like this tool - I was using Snappy earlier but didn't like to have to click so many times to get basic things done. The Monosnap tool lets you do a LOT of things with fewer clicks...

Detailed Review

Monosnap is a free and user-friendly application for macOS designed for screen capturing, annotation, and sharing. It allows users to easily take screenshots of the full screen, selected areas, or specific windows, and record screencasts and GIFs. The app is lauded for its intuitive interface and a good range of annotation tools, including pens, text, arrows, shapes, and blur effects, making it suitable for creating tutorials, providing feedback, or quickly sharing visual information. Monosnap offers seamless cloud integration with its own cloud storage and options to connect to third-party services like Dropbox, Google Drive, and more, simplifying the sharing process.

Standout Features

  • Versatile Capture Modes: Capture full screen, selected area, or a specific window. Offers an 8x magnifier for pixel-perfect selections and delayed screenshots.
  • Comprehensive Annotation Tools: Equipped with a variety of tools to annotate screenshots, including pens, text boxes, arrows, shapes, and blur tools to hide sensitive information.
  • Screencasting and GIF Recording: Record screencasts and create GIFs, useful for quick tutorials or visual demonstrations.
  • Cloud Integration and Sharing: Provides free cloud storage and integration with popular services like Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote, and more, for easy sharing. Users can also connect to FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, and Amazon S3 servers.
  • Customizable Hotkeys: Allows users to customize hotkeys for various actions, streamlining the workflow.

Conclusion

Monosnap is a highly effective and versatile screen capture tool for Mac users, especially for those who need to frequently take screenshots, annotate them, and share them quickly. Its free version is feature-rich for non-commercial use, offering a solid balance of functionality and ease of use. While the free version is limited to non-commercial purposes, paid subscriptions unlock commercial use and additional features. Monosnap is a strong contender against other screen capture tools and is particularly beneficial for users who value ease of use, annotation capabilities, and cloud sharing integration. However, users should be aware of the commercial use restrictions in the free version and consider their needs in terms of potential subscription costs.
