I'm an occasional user of Tidal but my default is Apple Music. I mainly use it on my phone which is lucky as the Desktop App (Mac) is buggy. I'll click a song and it won't play or I'll click a song and it will play the next one or it will skip to the next one after a minute.

I've been thinking of switching but i've just heard so many people complain about how the experience of using Tidal is so bad that they switch to something else. Have any of you had any big issues with the app?

The app was okay with me. I do have a bug which I think is specific to me only: every time I open the app it claim my credit card details are expired and when I click it ot goes away.

Best choice for audiophiles. The sound quality is unparalleled and I appreciate the management of royalties. Interface could be improved in some aspects ... but so far that's all I found. As someone who is serious about having the best possible experience from music, Tidal is my first choice.

Detailed Review

Tidal is a subscription-based music streaming service available on Mac and other platforms, distinguished by its commitment to high-fidelity audio. It provides users access to a vast catalog of over 110 million songs and 650,000 music videos, boasting lossless formats like FLAC and Master Quality Authenticated (MQA), although MQA support was recently removed in favor of HiRes FLAC. Tidal supports immersive audio technologies like Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio, delivering a rich and detailed listening experience, especially for users with high-end audio equipment.

While Tidal's primary focus is on superior sound quality, it also offers curated playlists, exclusive content, and features like artist discovery and offline listening. The Mac application provides a desktop interface for accessing Tidal's library and features. However, some users have reported occasional bugs and inconsistencies with the desktop app's performance.

Standout Features

  • High-Fidelity Audio: Streams music in lossless CD quality and Hi-Res FLAC (up to 24-bit/192kHz), catering to audiophiles.
  • Extensive Music Library: Offers over 110 million tracks and 650,000 music videos, with a wide range of genres.
  • Exclusive Content: Features exclusive music, videos, live performances, and curated content.
  • Offline Playback: Allows downloading music for offline listening on the Mac app.
  • Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio: Supports immersive audio formats for enhanced listening experiences with compatible devices.
  • Artist Focused: Claims to offer higher artist payouts compared to some competitors and was founded with artist collaboration.

Conclusion

Tidal is an excellent choice for Mac users who prioritize high-fidelity audio quality and are passionate about music. Its superior sound, extensive library, and focus on artist compensation set it apart from many competitors. While the subscription price is higher, the value proposition for audiophiles and serious music listeners is strong. However, users seeking a more affordable option or those less concerned with lossless audio might find alternatives like Spotify or Apple Music more appealing. Potential users should also be aware of user reports indicating occasional app stability issues on the Mac platform.
