It has the best of both Firefox (share -> open in browser) and Chrome (chromecast) + lots, lots more functionality that none of the others have (tab synching across devices, sending pages or anything at all to your 'flow' across devices [only a proactive 'send a tab' exists in Firefox but never works for me], mini messenger windows inside of it, etc). Not to mention that their mobile browser is super easy and intuitive to use with their one thumb button. I heard most of the previous browser inventions came out of Opera.

Opera is a comprehensive browser with enough in it to win you over. It provides you with a secure browsing space like no other and offers a free VPN too, which further adds to your protection. ... In fact, in some areas, such as performance and security, Opera has surpassed other popular browsers with its consistent and remarkable service.

Opera has returned to innovating and differentiating itself, with built-in ad-blocking, pop-out video, a battery saver, a turbo compression scheme, and now even a free built-in virtual private network (or VPN) that's as fast as many premium services.

Overall I really like Opera. I like it more than any other browser I have used so far... It has many great features built in that make it an absolute breeze to work with! I absolutely love the ability to set RAM, CPU, and other hardware limitations on what the browser can use.

Detailed Review

Opera is a long-standing web browser available for macOS, known for its speed, security, and a wide array of built-in features. It distinguishes itself from competitors by offering integrated functionalities like a free VPN, ad blocker, and social media messengers directly within the browser, eliminating the need for numerous extensions. Opera is built on the Chromium engine, ensuring compatibility with web standards and Chrome extensions. The browser focuses on providing a customizable and efficient browsing experience with features like Speed Dial for quick access to favorite sites and a built-in snapshot tool for easy screen captures. While packed with features, some users may find the interface a bit cluttered or the depth of options overwhelming. Concerns about privacy have been raised due to its ownership by a Chinese company, although Opera emphasizes its commitment to user privacy and security.

Standout Features

  • Built-in Free VPN: Provides enhanced privacy and security by masking your IP address.
  • Ad Blocker: Blocks intrusive ads and trackers for faster and cleaner browsing.
  • Battery Saver: Optimizes power consumption for longer battery life on laptops.
  • Integrated Messengers: Access WhatsApp, Telegram, and other messaging platforms directly from the sidebar.
  • Snapshot Tool: Capture and edit screenshots of web pages without extensions.
  • Speed Dial: Visually organize and quickly access frequently visited websites.
  • Customization: Offers themes, wallpapers, and extensive settings to personalize the browsing experience.
  • Cross-device Sync: Synchronize bookmarks, history, and settings across multiple devices.

Conclusion

Opera is a powerful and versatile browser for Mac users seeking an alternative to mainstream options like Chrome or Safari. Its comprehensive set of built-in features provides added value and convenience, especially for users concerned about privacy and ad-free browsing. Opera is well-suited for users who want a feature-rich, customizable browser that aims to enhance productivity and online experience without relying heavily on external extensions. However, users extremely sensitive about privacy due to its Chinese ownership might consider alternatives, and those preferring a minimalist browser might find Opera's extensive features unnecessary.
