Blazingly Fast But Lacks Features. I know - the more features the more likely to be sluggish! But I would trade some of the near-instantaneous speed of Musique for: 1. ability to search with multiple criteria: composer, performer, work. For example, it is impossible to find just Beethoven Piano Sonatas.

Musique is another best iTunes alternative for Mac that is easy to use and free to download. Using Musique is completely straightforward. It featured clear buttons and keyboard shortcuts to accomplish any task.

Unpopular opinion, but if you're a Mac user, the Music app is a powerhouse. I get it - it seems kind of ridiculous to be using the app formerly known as iTunes in the year 2024. By default, it's clearly optimized for use with the Apple Music streaming service, and if you don't know how to set it up correctly for DJ software, it can cause issues. So why bother?

Detailed Review

Musique is presented as a streamlined and free music player for macOS, emphasizing speed and ease of use. It aims to provide a clutter-free interface that keeps the focus on music listening. Musique supports a wide range of audio formats, including lossless formats like FLAC, and allows users to browse their music library by artists, albums, genres, and folders. It is positioned as a good option for users who find other music players too complex, including children and family members.

Standout Features

  • Clean and Simple Interface: Designed to be intuitive and easy to use, minimizing distractions.
  • Fast Performance: Built for speed, even with large music collections.
  • Broad Format Support: Plays most common audio formats, including FLAC, OGG Vorbis, and more.
  • Artist-focused Browsing: Allows browsing music by artist photos and album covers.
  • Folder-based Navigation: Option to browse music based on your file organization.
  • Lyrics Display: Features an "Info View" that can display lyrics for the currently playing song.
  • Play Queue: Offers a visible play queue for easy music management.
  • Last.fm Scrobbling: Supports scrobbling listening history to Last.fm.

Conclusion

Musique is a decent option for Mac users seeking a basic, fast, and free music player. Its simplicity and support for various audio formats are its main strengths. However, it lacks advanced features found in more comprehensive music players and has received mixed user reviews, particularly concerning missing features and occasional instability in older reviews. Users needing advanced library management, extensive customization, or robust features might find it lacking compared to alternatives like Apple Music, Spotify, or VLC. For users prioritizing a lightweight and straightforward music playback experience, Musique remains a viable choice.
