I absolutely adore the app!! One of my favorite things about it is being able to see all of your stats, especially having the ability to see what books you read in what months and the reader summary.

As an avid reader who has been on Goodreads for 10+ years, I was really excited about Fable...Fable is visually appealing and more interactive than Goodreads.

Best app ever. I'm genuinely so grateful for this app, the UI is stunning and so easy to use. I love how I can read reviews or what other people think about the books I'm interested in but on my own feed, it feels so much better than doom scrolling. I feel excited to read and track my progress thanks to the app!

I really like it! It's geared to be a bit more social, with lots of book clubs that are easy to join, comment in, read-along, etc.

Detailed Review

Fable: Books & TV is a social reading application designed for Mac, iPhone, and iPad that caters to book lovers and TV enthusiasts. It positions itself as a modern platform to discover, track, and discuss stories across books and TV shows, fostering a community of readers and watchers. Fable allows users to join or create book clubs, participate in discussions, set reading goals, and track their reading progress. It distinguishes itself with a visually appealing and user-friendly interface, personalized reading statistics, and a focus on social interaction around books and TV content. While offering a free basic account, Fable also provides in-app purchases for ebooks and access to premium book clubs. It has been compared to Goodreads and StoryGraph, often praised for its user experience and social features, although some users note it may still be developing features found in more established platforms.

Standout Features

  • Social Book Clubs and TV Clubs: Join or create clubs led by influencers, authors, or celebrities, fostering discussions and community.
  • Reading and TV Show Tracking: Organize your reading and watching life with lists, goals, and progress tracking.
  • Personalized Reading Stats: Gain insights into your reading habits with detailed statistics, charts, and summaries.
  • Customizable Reviews: Rate and review books with half-stars, add tags and spice levels, and import reviews from Goodreads.
  • Interactive Ebook Reader: Enjoy a distraction-free, customizable ebook reading experience within the app, with highlighting and note-taking features.
  • Goodreads Import: Seamlessly import your existing reading data from Goodreads to Fable.
  • Mood Reader Generator: Fun, personalized blurbs about your reading preferences based on your reading history.

Conclusion

Fable: Books & TV is a compelling option for Mac users seeking a social and visually engaging way to track their reading and connect with other book lovers. Its strengths lie in its user-friendly design, strong social features like book clubs, and fun, insightful reading statistics. While it offers in-app ebook purchases, it primarily functions as a social and tracking tool, and users heavily invested in other ebook ecosystems might find this separation a point to consider. For those looking for a more modern and community-focused alternative to Goodreads with a strong emphasis on user experience, Fable is a worthy contender. It's particularly well-suited for users who enjoy participating in online book clubs and appreciate visually appealing interfaces for tracking their reading habits.
