Spotlight is a powerful search function on Mac that can find documents, apps, emails, and more. It can also do unit conversions, calculations, and currency conversions... I use Spotlight for everything when it comes to using my Mac. I must hit Command+Space Bar around 100 times a day to search my emails, launch apps, convert units, do calculations, find documents and whatever else I need on a day-to-day basis.

Raycast is a replacement for the boring Spotlight launcher in MacOS... Spotlight is a search bar with some additional features... Raycast is a complete “mini-terminal” from which you can operate your device. Its powered by plugins and shortcuts. These plugins allow you to control and operate almost any external app from within Raycast. This saves so much time that it feels too good to be true.

Yes and when you press enter and need the actual calc, it'll open it up. But I've switched to Alfred. I went back and forth for years, but finally switched permanently. Pretty cool enhancements once you explore deep enough.

Spotlight is useful for basic searches and launching apps, but for power users, alternatives like Alfred or Raycast offer much more customization and features.

My experience with Spotlight has been extremely positive. I never use search bars in anything else anymore - especially because it just takes one quick keystroke combination to bring it up and you can do that from any application. The Cmd + Space keyboard shortcut makes a lot of sense and works very well...
Spotlight is Apple's built-in search feature for macOS, designed for quick and easy access to a wide range of items on your Mac. It allows users to search for applications, files, documents, emails, system settings, and even perform web searches, calculations, and unit conversions. Spotlight is activated with the keyboard shortcut Command+Space bar or by clicking the magnifying glass icon in the menu bar. It indexes the contents of your Mac to provide fast search results.
Spotlight is a convenient and readily available tool for macOS users, offering essential search and quick action capabilities. Its strength lies in its seamless integration with the operating system and ease of use for everyday tasks like launching apps and finding files. However, for users seeking advanced features, customization, and deeper workflow automation, third-party alternatives like Alfred and Raycast may offer more powerful solutions. Spotlight is ideal for users who need a reliable and simple search tool without extra complexities, while power users might find its functionalities limited compared to dedicated launcher applications.
