Evernote has problems. I used to love Evernote... I had EVERYTHING, EVERY THING in Evernote but couldn't find things because it would NOT show info within notes that I was searching for. Very frustrating. I finally ended up parting ways with Evernote... There is NO WAY to export your contents!!!! I had to literally copy EACH NOTE and place in Apple Notes. What a huge pain.

During, my years I have tried- Onenote, Zoho Notes, Bear(Mac only) and I can safely say the Evernote is the better of the above mentioned apps especially on Mac. The app had become a lot cluttered over the years but the new design language has made a much better app and I have returned back to it finally. I am using it as of now and plan to use it in future as well.

Detailed Review

Evernote for Mac is a well-established note-taking application designed to help users capture, organize, and access information across multiple devices. It allows users to create notes in various formats, including text, audio recordings, images, PDFs, and web clippings. Evernote syncs notes across devices, making information accessible anywhere. Key features include powerful search capabilities (even within images), organization through notebooks and tags, task management, and collaboration features. While a basic free version is available, Evernote offers subscription plans that unlock more storage, features, and device access.

Standout Features

  • Multi-format Notes: Create notes with text, audio, images, sketches, files, and web clippings.
  • Cross-Platform Sync: Access your notes on Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, and web browsers.
  • Powerful Search: Find notes quickly with keyword search, even within images and PDFs (OCR).
  • Web Clipper: Save web pages and articles directly to Evernote from your browser.
  • Organization Tools: Use notebooks and tags to categorize and structure your notes.
  • Task Management: Create to-do lists and manage tasks within your notes.
  • Collaboration: Share notes and notebooks with others for collaborative projects (paid feature).
  • Templates: Utilize pre-designed templates for various note-taking needs.
  • Evernote Helper: Quickly create notes and screenshots from the Mac menu bar.

Conclusion

Evernote remains a feature-rich note-taking application for Mac users, suitable for both personal and professional use. Its strengths lie in its versatility, cross-platform accessibility, and powerful search. However, the subscription cost for full functionality is a significant factor to consider, and some users have expressed concerns about recent versions becoming slower and more complex. For users needing a comprehensive note-taking solution with extensive features and cross-device syncing, Evernote is still a strong contender. However, those seeking a free or more lightweight option might explore alternatives like Apple Notes, OneNote, or Simplenote.
